I have been reminded that Bill also worked with Barnes Wallis , presumably linked to the proximity fuse. This should be another interesting avenue of exploration.

Understand that Emma is re-searchingn Man Even News , we were still at Valencia road at the time so that narrows it down a year or so !

It was Jane who recalled being told about Barnes Wallis- presumably by Dad or possibly Malc.
Have tried to correct date to 1939.
Did Emma have any luck with Man Evening News - I had it in my head it was Salford XXXX newspaper? - but they probably all merged anyway.
